🦇Bats!🦇

Many of us have heard about bats, and probably associate them with vicious, blood-sucking creatures that want to feast on anything with blood. In fact, one might be scared of these little creatures, but there's nothing much to worry about! Bats actually mainly eat night insects, lizards, and small birds, with the exception of the Vampire Bat! It mainly feeds off of cow’s blood! Generally, bats eat 50 percent of their weight every night, and, boy, do they need the energy! Did you know that bats can reach speeds of up to 100 miles per hour while flying? That’s insane! For reference, cheetahs run up to 50 - 80 miles per hour!

Generally speaking, the smaller the animal, the shorter its lifespan. For example, pet mice generally live about 1 and a half years old! However, bats seem to be the exception to this rule! These flying mammals can live anywhere from twenty to thirty years! In fact, the oldest living bat is forty years old, while on the other hand, the oldest living mouse was nine years!

It might help that bats have hardly any natural predators. Instead, the biggest cause of death among bats is disease!

Bats are extremely useful as well! They keep the insect population under control, and some even pollinate! Even their droppings can be used as a very rich fertilizer!

Isn’t it amazing how such a small creature can have so many interesting qualities? God knew exactly what He was doing when he made the bat, just like He knows exactly for what purpose He made us, and we can certainly trust them to be good!

'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. '” — Jeremiah 29:11
