God, our Refuge
46 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
7 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
- Psalm 46:1-3, 7
God. We hear His name over and over throughout our lives. Sometimes it feels as if we forget the power and authority that comes with that Name. How can we forget? As we see the sunset behind the mountains, or the miracle of life that comes when a baby is born, how can we forget that we have an All-Mighty God that is on our side. We forget, so we worry. When we forget who God is, we begin to stress and worry about our every-day lives. We worry about how our families will be fed, how we will pay off that debt, how our friend or family member will be healed and more. But only if we remembered. Remembered that God is our friend, our creator, our personal protector! Even if the mountains shake, He will protect us. Even if we are in a roaring sea, He will protect us. Even if we forget, He is still there to protect us. What a wonderful God we have! Through the little trivial things of this earth, as well as through the bigger things that may even threaten our lives, He is with us through it all and “will never leave or forsake” us (Deuteronomy 31:6). So, every morning when we wake up, every time we see the sunrise and sunset or a mother and her child let us remember that God is with us and will continue to be with us through it all. Amen.
